March 2006
Hello, from Maryland, from outside
the infamous Capital Beltway. In other words,
where sanity and logic try to prevail. I have lost faith in anyone who
claims the
job title of "politician", who’s only stated purpose in life is to obtain
re-election. So much for that discussion.
I have been living in this house for
the better part of 35 years. This property was the only home Edie and I ever
owned during our married years. Now development has encroached in our area
and the wildlife habitats have been destroyed and the former inhabitants
have
invaded our undeveloped areas and are trying to reestablish themselves.
Every animal from deer, raccoons, woodchucks, possum, barn owls, skunks,
land turtles, to mountain beaver, rabbits, and all species of birds are
looking for a new home.
My natural back yard has become a real turf war between the wild life and the domestic pets. The squirrels were here first and are acting as referees. The results of the nocturnal battles require quick disposal of the losers each morning. There has been an increase in road kill, also. Nature's natural selection will likely prevail. My friendly white tail deer has even left for better range. I haven't seen him since before Christmas. Of course the county revenuers are happy because of the increase in property values and the expected revenue income with the expanding tax base. More money for the politicians to handle and mishandle.
The word is out, don't retire here,
you will not be able to afford the taxes or the cost of
living. The service worker is up against it for affordable housing. Fort
Meade's expanding workforce is adding to the congestion. Well, apparently
"quality of life" is not a priority anymore in "the land of pleasant
living".
For the time being, I am still here. Since I am still working and paying my own way, I am fortunate and able to make it. Good health and success to all. See you down the road.
Take care,
Roy
