September 2005
Hello from Maryland. I am still here. Still recovering and feeling more well each day. I have started to gain some of my weight back and am able to work without falling out. I guess it will just take time. I find that there is plenty of that.
The summer seemed to move by really fast. The weather people say this has been the second hottest month of August on record. It has cooled off considerably. This morning it was in the 70s and will not reach the 80s today. At least the horses at the track seemed to enjoy the change. We will run the latest knot head the second week of September at Laurel Raceway.
My best wishes to Emory Parrish and his family. Our prayers are with you. Hang in there old friend.
Gene Lester from the 1967 unit got in touch with me. Seems like he is off on another mission. He is a contract physician’s assistant. Has been in Egypt and is headed for Afghanistan. We changed a few E-mails. He was one of the guys who had some time at B 36 (Project Rapid Fire-Special Recon). Jerry Wilson and Jerry Fairweather were also on that gig. I don't recall who else was there. Jerry Wilson called me on 9 August and he, like me is suffering form some brain fade. We had a good chat and started to recall some facts. The outfit was commanded by the infamous "Bo" Gritz. They did border surveillance, prisoner snatch, trail watch and other dastardly deeds. I had not talked to Wilson In a few years, just exchanged Christmas cards. If anyone can recall any of this please contact me or Wilson so we can get this down on paper.
Well, that is about all from here. Do your best to stay in good health and keep in touch with someone. Two things count in life, family and friends.
Take care.
