Jim Harris was with E Company 50th Inf LRRP and later E Company 75th Inf Ranger. Most of his time was spent TDY to Special Forces and I later served with his commander there, Captain Gene Sparks. Jim and I mustered out of the Rangers in July 1969 and served together with 6/31st Infantry working for their S-5. He lost his hearing in one ear while running missions with the Special Forces and he deserves to be added to our roster. Funny how this stuff just keeps coming back. I've hooked up with my old team leader, Gary Winkler, in Colorado and that's another reunion you can add to your list.
Jerry Morris
Hi Guys
Glad to hear Jerry can vouch for Harris!! Special Forces recruited from
RANGER/LRP/LRRP for Project Delta and B52 Force in Delta as well as CCN,CCC
and CCS Units Etc. Everyone that was moved in or out of any unit in VN had
orders cut as is done anytime in the Armed Forces in confidence or
otherwise. It would be of great help if everyone filled out a 180 form
which they can download from the VA or Perscom site and get a copy of their
service file, no Cost, you can also just write a letter to persom request a
complete copy of your 201 file. DD214 can now be ordered on line or by form
180. By securing a complete copy of your 201 file to include copies of your
orders and awards, it will help you with VA Claims and copies of your orders
may be useful in locating other members who served with our Unit that appear
on your orders. Everyone who is entitled to be a member of our unit and on
the roster definitely should be there!! It would save alot of headaches and
time if people would make an effort to identify themselves by contacting
people they know or securing some form of paper on their own, it is not our
ultimite responsibility to ID these people. We can help with existing
documents which we have available to us and doing the fan out for people who
may have served with them but in the end it is THEIR RESPONSIBILITY!! In
order to join the 75th Ranger Regt Assoc. or other military assoc. you need
to be able ID yourself. There is a huge problem with WannaBee people and
Stolen Valor, fortunately they have recently passed legislation to deal with
these people on a Criminal basis for wearing medals and claiming to be
people they are not. Once people get in the door of any organization it
makes it easier for them to enter other organizations and becomes harder and
extremely time consuming to weed them out!! I'm glad to hear one of our
brothers has found his way home rejoined us! I would appreciate it Jonesy
if you would send this message out to the membership.
