1/31/12 Update from Rick Stetson:

MIKE KENTES

I am sad to report that E Company Ranger Mike Kentes died on December 4 leaving two sons and two grandsons. Mike was featured on the May 1985 cover of the National Geographic magazine. The photo was taken at the Vietnam Memorial where Mike had been searching for names of fallen buddies. Now Mike is one of the fallen and we need to show his family that he won't be forgotten.

The burial for Mike Kentes will take place Tuesday, Feb 21 at Arlington National Cemetery. The service will be held at 3:00 in the Old Post Chapel at Ft Meyer, Virginia. A reception will follow at the Ft Meyer Officers Club. Special thanks to the 75th Ranger Regiment for helping sponsor the reception.

An informal memorial service will be held the night before, Monday, Feb 20, from 6 to 9 pm, at the Eagle Lodge, 1015 Cameron Street, Alexandria, Virginia. Food and drink will be available. A point of contact number for more info is: 703-548-1362. Please let me know if you plan to attend so Mike's friends who are putting this together will know how many to expect.

Thanks in advance to any E Company members who might be able to attend the service.

Gentlemen:

Good afternoon.  As you probably already know, Mike Kentes died on Sunday, 04 December 11.  He is survived by a brother, two sons and two grandchildren.  His eldest son is Michael Kentes (28) and his youngest son is Paul Kentes (18).  His son Michael has recently informed me that, while there will be no viewing held for his father, there will be a funeral service held at 15:00 Hrs. on Tuesday, 21 February 2012, in the Old Post Chapel at Fort Myer, Virginia followed by his burial in the Arlington National Cemetery. Michael has asked that we tender this information to any and all interested parties on the family’s behalf.  Should you have further questions, please contact me.    Thank you in advance for your further assistance and, to all best regards and wishes that your families enjoy a peaceful and healthy Holiday Season.

Sincerely,

Email from Tom Dineen:

Dear Bob:

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that Michael Kentes died at home in Alexandria Virginia earlier this week.  He is survived by a brother and two sons.  Details will be forthcoming.  As I have been out of the loop for some time now with the Regiment and Company, I didn't know who else to contact.  Best regards.
